Google’s Axed Pixel Tablet 2 Pack with Key Improvements, Including Display at 120Hz, 5G Connectivity

Google’s Pixel Tablet 2, which may never make it to the market, is said to have brought many significant improvements over its predecessor, Android Authority recently reported. The upcoming device was set to feature a more advanced display, improved connectivity, and other improvements that could have made it more competitive in the tablet market.

Most noticeably, it upgraded to 120Hz with a 10.95-inch LCD, which was bigger than the Pixel Tablet’s 60Hz LCD. This should have rendered a much more fluid viewing experience, still at a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels. It would also feature camera upgrades on the Tablet 2, which include a 10MP selfie camera as on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and a more enhanced 11MP rear camera.

On the connectivity front, the Pixel Tablet 2 was set to be supported by 5G and use the 5G modem from the Pixel 9 series. However, while models with cellular connectivity would have supported GPS, satellite connectivity was not included. The device was also expected to incorporate smart home features, including a Thread radio, which would allow for enhanced integration with other smart devices.

However, it is important to mention that the Pixel 9 series hasn’t yet leveraged the Thread radio for such key functions.

It is also in terms of the output on external display capabilities that people claim that the Pixel Tablet 2 is designed for the capability of supporting up to a 4K monitor; thus, its versatility might allow users to connect to a larger screen.

Despite these promising upgrades, it appears that the Pixel Tablet 2 will never come to life as Google has canceled plans for the device. The cancellation most likely marks the end of Google’s tablet journey as a one-off product for the original Pixel Tablet. Although the upgrades which were scheduled for the Pixel Tablet 2 could have made this product much more competitive when compared to its rivals in the iPad, it appears Google has opted to take a step away from this product line for the time being.
